4 Mega Evolution SAR Cards Dropping in Price
Share
The Mega Evolution set released approximately two months ago, and since then, the market value of its top Special Art Rare (SAR) cards has steadily declined. Over the past month in particular, prices have continued to weaken, which is likely linked to ongoing supply increases.
With a potential second wave of booster boxes hitting the market, single card prices may fall further. Below is a breakdown of the top four SARs from the set and how their values have shifted.
1. Mega Gardevoir ex - 178/132 - ME01: Mega Evolution (MEG)
- Raw value one month ago: Approx. £270
- Current raw sale prices: Approx. £200, with some sales dropping to £180
- Recent PSA 10 sales: Around £450
- Previous PSA 10 peak: Between £1,500–£1,700
This card has seen one of the largest declines, especially in graded form, indicating a sharp correction following initial release hype.
2. Mega Lucario ex - 179/132 - ME01: Mega Evolution (MEG)
- Raw value one month ago: Approx. £280
- Current raw sale prices: Approx. £200
- Recent PSA 10 sales: Typically £430–£550
- Early October auction price: Exceeded £2,000
Mega Lucario SAR has followed a similar downward price trend to Mega Gardevoir, with a sharp decline in PSA 10 value since the beginning of October.
3. Mega Latias ex - 181/132 - ME01: Mega Evolution (MEG)
- Raw value one month ago: Approx. £170
- Current raw sale prices: Around £100
- Recent PSA 10 sales: Approx. £400
Mega Latias SAR has now lost around 40% of its raw value in just one month, with prices continuing to soften.
4. Mega Venusaur ex - 177/132 - ME01: Mega Evolution (MEG)
- Raw value one month ago: Approx. £200
- Current raw sale prices: Around £150
- Recent PSA 10 sales: Between £430–£480
While Mega Venusaur SAR has not fallen quite as steeply as others, the decline remains notable, especially as graded values have started to stabilise.
Why Are Prices Falling?
- Increased supply: A reported second wave of booster boxes is believed to have launched or is imminent, adding further stock into circulation.
- Early hype cooling off: Cards were initially priced higher due to launch excitement, commonly resulting in overvaluation.
- Market readjustment: As more cards enter the market over time and collectors fulfil demand, prices are normalising.
Final Thoughts
Collectors and investors should closely monitor upcoming price trends. If supply continues to increase, further declines are expected. While this may pose risk for short-term investors, it could present a strategic opportunity for long-term collectors looking to secure key SAR cards at lower entry points.
